Sebastien Boncy

Sebastien Boncy, born in Haiti and shipwrecked in Texas, is all six members of the Pugilist Press collective. In the last decade, he’s maintained a hyperlocal practice centered around an online photographic archive of the city of Houston: Purple Time Space Swamp. Sebastien is currently doing the adjunct shuffle in the City of Syrup. He takes pictures daily, distributes them freely, does it for the culture.

Time After Time

These images from my upcoming show at Galveston Art Center are pictures of the end of the world taken in North West Houston. Without making light of such calamitous events, we can see them as much more than tragedy; in every ending there is the promise of a new world.

I take pictures daily. It’s a practice that’s as much about mental health and clarity (of purpose, of desire, of morals) than it is about aesthetics. After some deep culls, most of these pictures make their way online, free of copyright. Many of them become part of my visual archive of Houston, Purple Time Space Swamp. Some of them become part of publications and exhibitions.
